Thomas Cushman, Esq., one of the oldest inhabitants of Scipio, died at his residence at Scipio Centre on Tuesday evening Aug. 14th, 1877, aged 87 years. He had been a member of Cayuga Lodge since November 1852, and at the regular communication held Aug. 15th, the following preamble and resolutions were adopted:
"WHEREAS-It has pleased the Grand Master of the universe to remove from his place among the brethren of Cayuga Lodge No. 221 F.&A.M., our well loved brother Thomas Cushman, to a brighter and more noble station in the Celestial Grand Lodge. Therefore, Resolved—That in the death of brother Cushman, our Lodge has lost a consistent member; a faithful and long-tried servant: religion, a firm supporter; masonry, an ornament; his family, a kind husband and father; and his many acquaintances, a true friend and good neighbor. Resolved— That we tender our heartfelt sympathy to the family of the deceased, and trust that they may realize that this blow, though severe, has been inflicted by One who only wounds to heal; and that for the departed to die was gain. Resolved—That this Lodge attend his funeral at Scipio, Aug. 16th, at 2 o'clock p.m. and that a copy of these resolutions be transmitted to his family, and offered to the county papers for publication. Funeral services for Mrs. Lydia M. Brooks, 79, who died suddenly yesterday morning at 8 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Addie Wright. No. 5015 S. Salina street, will be held at the home tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be made in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Brooks had been living with her daughter for some time. Thursday night she retired in apparently good health, but yesterday morning sustained an attack which resulted fatally.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Wright; one son Webster Brooks; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 16382
