Obituary: Major J. H. Cushman – We regret to hear of the death of Major J. Halsey Cushman, editor of the Bennington Banner, which occurred at his residence in Bennington after a long illness Sunday morning last at half-past three o'clock. Major Cushman was a bright and genial man who "wore his heart on his sleeve," and was justly esteemed very highly by his brethren in the profession and his death will be a great loss to the community and the state. As an editor he was one of the brightest and wittiest in the state and he made of the banner a most readable and excellent paper. His host of friends in every section of the country will hear of "Halsey's" death with deepest regret. Vermont Watchman & State Journal, October 31, 187715384
