Josiah, sixth child of Elkanah , (third by his second wife) was born March 21, 1688 and died Apr. 13 , 1750. He married Susanna Shurtleff, daughter of Captain William Shurtleff of Boston. She was born at Plymouth in 1691 and died July 27, 1763 in her 73rd. year. They had nine children. He was a Lieu- tenant in the Militia of Plymouth, and was a highly respected and useful man. He joined the church during the ministry of his uncle , Rev. Isaac Cushman. It was not uncommon at that time· for the best of men to hold slaves . In Kingston, Mass. Liut. Josiah. Cushman bought a negro boy who looked up into his face and smiled when he lifted him. He was a faithful servant, and refused to accept his freedom when it was offered.11857

This from Dan Jenkins. In 1773 Job Cushman sold to Plato Turner , an Afro- American ,his dwelling in the Sheep Pasture at Plimpton. Later 4 Afro- Americans were granted 94 acres beside that land and it became a community known as "Parting Ways " on now Rt 80 to Plympton.
Do you know the proper parents of Job,[ Elkanah ]? Also do you have any ancillary info. on Plato Turner by chance ?
Plato was not a free man until after service in the Rev. War as far as I know , so sale of dwelling to him 1773 raises questions to me .
