Loring "Cush" Cushman, a life long resident of Melrose, died at Lahey Clinic in Burlington on Thursday morning November 17, 2005 at the age of 96. "Cush" was born in Melrose September 26, 1909, son of the late Loring T. Cushman and Marguerite (Libby) Cushman. Cush played hockey at Melrose High School, Worcester Academy, Andover Academy and the Boston Hockey Club. Cush served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and Korea and was a member of the Harold O. Young VFW Post #2394 in Melrose. Mr. Cushman was a salesman, retiring at age 90. He was an avid golfer and fisherman and loved to spent time at his summer home in New Gloucester, Maine. ALBION - Robert L. Cushman died after a long illness Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the age of 67. He was born on August 21, 1946, in Portland and was a former resident of Melrose, Mass. He was the son of Robert A. Cushman and Marjorie H. Cushman. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Before retiring, Robert worked as a mechanic for Lee Brothers (Albion) and Boulet's Truck Service (Fairfield). He also was extremely proud of his service as a firefighter for the Waterville and Albion fire departments.
During his free time, Robert enjoyed to hunt and fish. He also spent many hours in his shop working on a project or playing darts with friends. If he wasn't to be found there, it was common to find him playing horseshoes instead. Robert is survived by his two daughters, Heather and Shilo; brother Thomas Cushman of Hendersonville, Tenn.; sister Judi Singh of Nashua, N.H.; and multiple nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by many friends. There will be a graveside service Sunday July 13, at 2 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Albion. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory can be made to the Albion Auxiliary Fire Department at 22 Main St., Albion, ME 04910.
