Mrs. Submit Cushman Sibert, 96, of 247 W. Church st., East Canton, one of the community's oldest residents, died Friday at her home after a short illness. She was a native of Tyner, Ind., and had resided in East Canton 75 years.Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Fleeta Cooper, East Canton and Mrs. Dru Whipple and Mrs. Cecil Berry of Canton; two sons, Harry, Van Nuys, Calif., and Raymond of the home; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great- grandchildren. Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Myers funeral home in East Canton with Rev. Robert Updegraff and Rev. Peshing E. Pyle officiating. Burial will be in Reformed Cemetery in East Canton. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.264

Cushman lot.8150The regiment was constituted on July 28, 1866 in the regular army as the 7th Cavalry. It was organized on September 21, 1866 at Fort Riley, Kansas as part of an expansion of the regular army following the demobilization of the wartime volunteer and draft forces. From 1866 through 1871, the regiment was posted to Fort Riley and fought in the Indian Wars. From 1871 through 1873, 7th Cavalry companies participated in constabulary duties in the deep South in support of the Reconstruction Act, 8283

He died at age 22 and was in Troop B 7th U.S. Calvary. He was from Chautauua, NY. He was a farrier.88 Photo of stone is at Find A Grave. I think the inscription on the group stone in the Riverside Cemetery, Westville, Franklin Co. NY is basically a monument as it records the births and deaths of several family members.
His obit is in the Spartanburg (SC) Herald dated CS-1 Jun 1871, p. 2, where he is referred to as Alpheus B. Cushman.
