(Silas, Consider, Nathaniel, Isaac, Isaac, Thomas, Robert). Son of Silas Cushman and Eleanor (Millard) Cushman. Married twice and had 17 children. He had a son Robert Cushman and a daughter, Grace Cushman, who were well know socially about 1890. His farm was just north of Deer River Corners.8101 1880 census in Fort Covington, Franklin Co., NY shows Robert Cushman, age 69, Farmer, with father b. MA and mother b. NY, and wife Nancy, age 55, b. NY; son William G Cushman, age 23, b. NY studying medicine; Henry Cushman, age 21, b. NY, farm laborer; Emma Cushman, age 15, daughter Grace, age 11, and Robert Cushman, age 10.8151 His grave stone includes info that his wife, Nancy, is also buried there, 1825-18938148 Note one source has him as son of Ambrose Cushman and Elizabeth “Betsy” Millard Cushman (1787-1867). I think this is in correct.8102 Obit of son, Robert Newcomb Cushman, Jr. shows that his middle name was Newcomb.8152

Careful about the children that are listed for him. They come from two different sources, with some overlap or duplication, including additional middle names. See research notes

Find a Grave has note:
Nancy LaFluer and Robert had 13 children. She was his second wife. He had at least 4 children with Nancy Clark 1809-before 1848.

I received Robert Nathaniel Cushman's death certificate this morning...

Date of Death: June 1st. 1897
Full Name: Robert N. Cushman
Age: 87 years
Color: White
Single, Married or Widowed: Widowed
Occupation: Farmer
Birthplace: Westville
How long in USA: blank
How long resident here: blank
Father's name: Silas Cushman
Father's birthplace: Westville, NY
Mother's name: Eleanor
Mother's birthplace: Washington Co., NY
Place of Death: North Bangor, NY
Last place of Residence: ditto
Cause of Death: Old age
Date of Record: June 2, 1897
Stamped across the certificate: For Genealogical Research

We need to find info on another Robert, son of Ambrose Cushman and Elizabeth.8153

Clue 3: Once Robert N. Cushman’s death record had been obtained, it showed that he was born in Westville, New York, son of Silas and Eleanor Cushman,[7] not Ambrose and Betsey Cushman. Robert N. Cushman’s descent from Isaac Allerton had to be revised to reflect his “new” parentage.
Clue 4: Silas Cushman and his wife were also buried in Riverside Cemetery, and their shared gravestone referred to her as “Eleanor Millard, his wife 1797−1867.”[8] Therefore, Robert N. Cushman’s mother was the daughter Elenor Cushman named in Abiathas Millard’s will and the sister of Elizabeth “Betsey” (Millard) Cushman. ...Conclusion: Robert N. Cushman was proven to be the son of Silas and Eleanor (Millard) Cushman. Enough documentation was subsequently gathered for the correct set of parents, siblings to the originally designated parents, that the research for this generation was deemed complete. With this information in hand, the patron submit- ted her application to the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants and was accepted in December 2013. 8154

Mr. and Mrs. John C. Cushman, of Chicago are visiting her brother, E. S. Bissell and family. Mr. Cushman was at one time Clerk of the Circuit court in this county.8159

From the Highland Park News. John C- Cushman. We find the following item, in a Plymouth (Indiana) paper i "J. C. Cushman, Esq., has sold his elegant residence on Walnut Street. We shall regret very much if Mr. Cushman makes up his mind to remove from Plymouth; but as he does not contemplate going soon, he will have ample opportunity to change his mind." What the loss is to Plymouth -will be gain to Highland Park : we have tears for them, also joy for ourselves in this case, as we are most happy to learn that Mr. Cushman has purchased the residence now occupied by Mr. George Leslie, and will next May remove his family here. Mr. Cushman is a partner of one farmer fellow-citizen. Mr. Cameron, and is a gentleman, who will make a most agreeable and valuable acquisition to our city. We shall bid him and his family welcome with great pleasure. from Marshall County Republican Newspaper, vol 19, #11, of 28 Jan 1875 at: https://newspapers.library.in.gov/cgi-bin/indiana?...t-txIN-cushman-----# He was clear of the circuit court

Note: I apologize for the following piece but this is the way it was. This is part of the history… RCC

A Black Republican Sold. In a "western city," seven miles from this place, lives Dr. R___ , who, although a very good Physician, and philanthropist in the cause of "bleeding Kansas," and "suffering Africa," is rather too "matter of fact" for this age of practical jokes. Tho following scene occurred at the store of our friend, J. C. Cushman, who, belonging to the "Border Ruffian" party, and being somewhat of a wag, assisted in carrying the thing out. A relative of Mr. C's., formerly belonging to Dick Sliter's celebrated Empire Minstrels, was stopping with him on a visit, and for the sake of having a little sport, blacked himself, put on an old suit of clothes, wool hat, & c, which changed his appearance from a "very nice young man" to an odd specimen of tho African specie, and presented himself at Cs store as a fugitive nigger from South Carolina, en route for Canada. C. and some of his friends present being in the secret, were enjoying the fun immensely, when in comes Doctor R____ , upon which the following dialogue ensued: Dr. R. What have you got here? C. A nigger from South Carolina, if we can believe what the rascal says; but I don't place any confidence in the black villain, any how. I'll bet he's a regular humbug. Dr. R___. Oh pshaw, no! He looks like an honest fellow. Where are vou from, my good fellow? Sambo. From Souf Carliny, sah. Dr. B. What part of South Carolina did you come from? S. What part? Dr. B. Yes. What county and town? S. Oh, yah! Where de oysters grow. Dr. R. He came from near the Atlantic coast. C. I don't believe a word of it. Dr. R. I guess it's so. How far have you traveled to-day? Sam. How far? Dr. R. Yes, how far? Sam. From Lockport, sah. Dr. B. From Lockport? What State is that in? Sam. What State? Chicago. Dr. R. Poor fellow! I pity him. You sco that he is quite intelligent. How did you get here? Sam. Walked all 'do way, sah. Dr. I, You must be very tired. Sam. Oh yo3, sah. I's bery tired, indeed, sah. C: What did you run away for, you black rascal? Sam. I didn't run away, sah. Xo I didn't. C. Don't you lie to me, you rascal. I know your master well. I'll write to him in the morning. Sam. Please don't, sah. I's off. (going towards the door.) Dr. R. Don't bother the poor fellow. Come back here; he won't write to your master. C. Can you dance the Virginia break down? Sam. Yes sah. C. Dance it then. Sam. Wouldn't you rather have a jig, sah? C. I don't care. (Sambo dances fifteen minutes.) Can't you dance any more? Dr. R. Oh, don't ask him to, tho poor fellow is so tired; he has walked so far today. Sam. Can I stay here to-night, sah? C. Ask the Doctor, he's the man. Sam, Can I stay with you, sah? Dr. B. Oh , I wish you could, poor fellow; but the fact is, I havn't got but one bed. Sam. Well, 'spose I must go, den. Got any water here? I's so dry. C. We don't water such black villains here. Dr. R. Hold on. I'll go and bring you some from the well, (brings in a pail full.) Cushman, have you got a cup or dipper here? C. No; let him drink out of your pail, Doctor. Dr. R. (with emotion,) Here, take this funnel; stick your linger in the small end on it, and I'll fill for you. (Fills it, and Sambo drinks.) Sam. Oh, dat's cool; give me some more sah. Dr. R. Poor fellow; how do you live? Sam. I picks up a chicken now and then. Dr. R. Have you stolen a chicken, today? Sam. Xo sah, I's had my breakfast dis evening I low fur is it to Canada? Dr. R. By way of Detroit it is over two hundred miles, (much agitated.) You come to my ofiice to-morrow morning, and I'll give you something to help you on to the land of freedom. I think, Cushman, from his features, that he has white blood in him. It’s a perfect shame, and a cursed institution. Sam. Yes sah. Dr. R. Don't you think I would look pretty well, if I was only black? Sam. Sah? Dr. B. Don't you think I would look natural if I was black? Sam. Yes, sah. I think you look natural! Tho Doctor left the store, and the crowd no longer able restrain themselves, burst into a roar of laughter at tho philanthropic Doctor's expense.
