Charles S. Cushman was born March 24, 1854 in Cowlesville, town of Bennington, Wyoming County, New York, and died Sept. 3, 1904 in his home in Cowlesville after an illness of about five weeks of typhoid fever.Mr. Cushman was a son of Lysander and Elizabeth Cushman. He was a descendant of the Puritans being the ninth generation. On October 11, 1876, he married Miss. Ella A. Bixby of Arcade. He leaves to mourn their loss the wife and two daughters, Mrs. Ladell C. Hart and Miss Lucy E. Cushman of Cowlesville, and two sisters, Mrs. A. M. Richardson of Keuka Park, N.Y. and Mrs. Lyman Stillson of York, Neb. He was a kind husband and father. He had been engaged with various occupations and for the last ten years has conducted a general store at Cowlesville. Mr. Cushman, his wife and daughter, Lucy, was visiting friends in the eastern states at the time of his being taken sick when he hurried home. All the members of his family and other friends did all that was possible for him. He was a member of the K.O.T.M. and the I.O.O.F. which adopted the following: Cowlesville, N.Y., Sept 14, 1904
Your committee on memories would submit the following on the death of Charles S. Cushman.
Whereas, death the dreaded foe of all mankind, has claimed one who was one of the charter members of Cowlesville Lodge, No. 835 of the I.O.O.F. and who was an Hon. officer and member and whereas we shall miss his counsel in our lodge room, therefore be it
Resolved, That we extend to the bereft family, our deepest sympathy, in this, their trying hour of affliction.

The funeral services were held in the Universalist church, F. H. Colby officiating. The congregation was one of the largest that ever assembled here, an evidence of the high esteem in which Mr. Cushman was held by his large circle of friends.
The floral offerings were beautiful and the services of the Orders very impressive. He was interred in the Cowlesville cemetery.6641
