Columbus Enquirer, Columbus, GA, Jan. 12, 1869, pg. 3 Death of Dr. C. T. CUSHMAN - We regret that the accidental shooting of himself by the above named gentleman resulted in his death, which took place at his residence at 8 1/2 o'clock Sunday a. m. Although he suffered excruciating pain he was not supposed to be seriously wounded, and no doubt was entertained by his physicians of his recovery, until a few hours preceding his death. The feeble state of his general health was such as could not withstand the shock, and he yielded without a murmur. Dr. C. was a native of the interior of the State of New York, but had lived in this city for a number of years. As a Dentist he stood high in the profession, and by his quiet, industrious habits had formed a large circle of friends, who, with an interesting family, will miss his steadfast friendship and loving, indulgent kindness. His age was about 47 years. 4815

Unknown newspaper MRS. J. S. CUSHMAN DEAD. Mrs. J. S. Cushman departed this life yesterday evening in her 68th year. Mrs. Cushman was the daughter of Capt. James Shaw of England, and the widow of Dr. Charles T. Cushman of Columbus, Ga. Two children, Mrs. Harry C. Tindall and Mr. Charles Cushman of Macon survive her and mourn for the separation, though in the full assurance that the mother has entered into peaceful rest. Mrs. Cushman became a member of the Presbyterian church early in life, and to the time of her departure lived a consistent Christian life, enjoying in a marked degree the confidence, esteem and love of all who knew her. Like the Christ whom she served, her whole life was spent in doing good. Always cheerful in disposition, she had the delightful faculty of making those around her happy. Though in ill health for two years before her desease, she continued her unselfish, service to others, and up to the very end her thoughts were of how to make some other life happy and useful in the Master's cause. The funeral services will occur at her home on Western Heights this Sabbath afternoon at 3 o'clock.
