ASA Cushman b. ca 1867 England, living in Providence RI in 1875 RI State census. listed as Nephew to Albert H Cushman in 879 US census. His marriage certificate lists ASA as his father and Clara A Cushman as his mother. I think this may mean that he was adopted by his Cushman uncle. Find a Grave has him as Asa Cushman, III yet he appears as son of Albert?There is record of birth of a still born cushman 30 Aug 1896, Providence, RI, father’s name is Asa Cushman but mother’s name is Nicola S? Could this be a second marriage?

Viola Weeden Steere married Asa Cushman, born in England, and a setter of precious stones.
They had three children:
Frances (Fannie) Enid, b. Aug 24, 1891;
Robert Asa, b. Aug 20, 1896, died the same day;
Ethel Jackson, b. July 15, 1897.
