BUFFALO, Mo. - David Cushman died Sunday, May 29, 2005, at Colonial Springs Care Center in Buffalo, at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 28 days.He was born Aug. 1, 1916 in Ithaca, N.Y., the son of the late Stephen P. and Ruth H. (Powers) Cushman. He spent his early years in Walpole and Boston, Mass. An educator and organist.14932DAVID CUSHMAN Mr. David Cushman, formerly of W. Palm Beach, FL, departed this Iife on May 29, 2005 in Buffalo, Missouri. He was 88 years of age. In 1977 David was married to Ruth Sander and they made their home in Missouri. David was a man who loved the Lord. He always enjoyed helping his neighbors or anyone that was in need of a hand who happened to come across his path. He was saved and baptized as a young adult, and then was baptized again, fully immersed, in the Pomme de Terre River later on as a sign of his deeper commitment to the Lord. He was licensed with the Evangelistic Messengers Association. He retired as a foreman of the Public Works Department of West Palm Beach, FL. David is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ruth, of the home (37 Engle Rd. Buffalo, MO 65622); two sons, Dr. Stephen Cushman of Briggsville, WI and John Cushman of Albuquerque, NM; one daughter, Anne L. Emery of Bomoseen, VT; two stepdaughters, Susan Bursey of Lake Worth, FL and Jeannine Whiting of Okeechobee, FL; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of other family members and friends who will all sadly miss him. In respect for David's wishes, no funeral services will be held. BRIGGSVILLE -- Stephen Cushman, Ph.D., 75, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014, at his home in Briggsville. Stephen was born Aug. 16, 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts, and was raised in Vermont. He performed his first organ recital at the age of 13. Stephen was the youngest to pass the American Guild of Organists exam at 14 and was a church organist since then. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1956, cum laude from Harvard University in 1960, N.E. Conservatory of Music with a degree in organ and choral conducting in 1963. He earned his Ph.D. in musicology: history and literature from Boston University in 1973.
He taught at P.E.A. during the summer school in 1956 to 1969 and at B.U. pursuing his doctoral degree. He taught at Wheaton College from 1975 to 1990 and also served as the head of the Music Department.
Stephen gave multiple concerts on the organ in many churches and colleges. He also played the piano, harpsichord and stringbass. As church organist and choir director he wrote and arranged hymns and cantatas. He also wrote music for orchestras. He was listed in Who is Who in America and Internationally. His doctoral dissertation was read in Italy and Russia.
Stephen enjoyed painting landscapes and also abstract mediums. He received his first award at 17. He started gardening as a child and wherever he lived he had “a garden.” He was a true master gardener.
Stephen became a believer in Jesus Christ at the age of 20. He studied the Bible in several languages and knew most of the Scriptures by heart. To his friends he became “the answer man” and he mentored many to a deeper understanding of their faith.
He was well educated in history, literature, politics, music, art, geography, religions of the world and he loved to share his knowledge. In spite of his giftedness he was a very humble man. He knew where his talents came from including his language abilities.
His parents, David Cushman and Hariette Smith Cushman preceded him in death. Also his younger sister, Anne Emery.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, Wasthi Brännström Cushman; sons, Mark and Erik (Julie Watson); grandchildren, Matthew, Payton, Emma, Sara, Jacob, Aidan, Benjamin and Luke; his brother, John (Barbara) Cushman; niece, Jerry-Ann; and nephew, Kristoper.
To honor Stephen’s memory give to the Christian organizations he supported through the years: Samaritan’s Purse, Jews for Jesus, Medical Ambassadors or the Voice of the Martyr’s.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16 at Grace Bible Church with the Rev. Mike Gormican and Dr. Steve Corbett co-officiating. Inurnment will be private. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church. Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage (www.pmmfh.com) is assisting the family.

Anne L Emory, 71, of Castleton, died January 22, 2013, at the Pines nursing home in Rutland aftr a battle with ALS. She was born on March 4, 1941, in Boston, MAss, to Harriette (Smith) Cushman and David Cushman. The family resided in Willis, MAss, and Walpole, mass., for several years before moving to Vermont to buy and operate a dairy farm in Shoremham. The farm was sold, and Anne and her family moved to Florida where Anne grouted from lake Worth High School in 1958. Anne graduated from the Sheldon Academy of Beauty Culture in Burlington Vt in 11959. She was a beautician for several yard working in salons in Florida and finally at Berhta’s hairstyling which was located on Wales Street in Rutland, She married Willard N “Bill” Lucia of Orwell, Vt in 1960, and then welcomed a daughter, Jerri Anne, born in June of 1961. Her husband, Bill, sadly died when Jerri Anne was just four years old. Anne, in later years, works as an elder caregiver in private homes in the Castleton area….Anne is survived by her daughter, Jerri Anne, and her two granddaughters Kaylie and Erin, all of Colorado; two brothers, John Cushman, an educator,and is wife Barbara of Alburquerque, NM and Stephen Cushman, educator and organist, and his wife Wasthi of Wisconsin; a cousin, attorney Gregg Wilson and wife Dianne of Essex Junction, VT; as well as numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews. She married in 1975 to owen Emery of Franklin, Ma who has sine predeceased her. A memorial service will be held in March. There will be no calling hours. Donations may be made to the Castleton Community Center…or the ALS Association, New England Chapter….Arrangements are by the Durfee Funeral home in Fair Haven.14932
